New Live Poets Society Open Mic at Flicker Bar!

We had our first open mic in the new space last night & it was fantastic!  I'm going to post some pics here as well as on Facebook so that everyone can see what a good time we had :)  The open mics are taking place in the stage room at Flicker, the room without the bar, and we had tables & chairs set out in the floor space so that everyone could sit down & drink while listening.  It's a great space for an open mic - intimate, cozy, with great acoustics!  There will be no open mic tonight, 1/31/11, as they already had a show planned, but next week there is a poetry open mic at Dog Ear Books and, after that, we plan on alternating Mondays with Dog Ear Books so that Athen's, GA has a Poetry Open Mic EVERY MONDAY!  We may also grab one Wed. a month at Flicker to have a featured poet or a variety show or a performance art night or, y'know, whatever we do...Hope to see everybody soon!

New Deadlines, New Print Edition, New Open Mics!

Okay, so the deadline for submissions has been pushed back, as we made a huge change since deciding to start this zine.  We are going to have Proetry as both an Online Literary Magazine for the Athens community, and also a Print Edition!  There is no longer a deadline for submitting work for the Online Edition, but the guidelines have changed a bit (See Below).  The deadline for submitting work to be printed in the Print Edition is 2/23/11, as we are aiming to print the first issue in mid-March.  Please email ProetryEditor@gmail.com for questions or info.  Also, we started a new project...Col-Ath-Po, Collaborative Athens Poetics, has started.  Col-Ath-Po is a collaborative poem which is being passed around Athens and will be printed in the first edition of Proetry.  If you see it, be sure to write some poetry in it and let us know what you think of this beautiful city we inhabit!  So I've posted the New Submission Guidelines below as well as the Col-Ath-Po Rules, just in case somebody gets the poem and can't read the rules on the envelope (there could be water damage, who knows?).  I've also posted a list of Upcoming Events for Athens' Writing Community, here & on the site, Proetry.com!  Be sure to check back as we will be updating the Upcoming Events section in this blog and on the website (Proetry.com) for the foreseeable future!

Col-Ath-Po Rules

· This is a collaborative poem, which means your poetic contribution is part of a larger poem, which has already been written and which will be written after your piece. Keep the flow.
· You can keep the folder in your possession for a maximum of two days, yes, 48 hours.
· You don't have to write anything, but, if you do, you can write as much or as little as you would like.
· This poem is collaborative, which means it is the property of all of us, intellectually, however, the piece will be edited before it is published just in terms of grammatical revisions & things like that.
· After you are done with your poetic contribution, please pass the poem on to the next person you come across who you think will rock this poem.
· The deadline is February 23rd, 2011. If you have the folder on this day, please bring it by the Daily Groceries Co-Op (523 Prince Ave. in Athens, for y'all who don't know) between 8am-10pm. We are aiming to publish the piece in early March.
· This is a local project. If you send the poem somewhere else, please make sure it gets back to Athens. Thank you!

Please email colathpo@gmail.com if you have questions or need any more info or anything.
We're looking forward to reading everyone's work!
P.S. This project is not affiliated with Daily Groceries Co-Op, it just so happens that one of us works there.
